power or internet outage

Post by dmelosi »

Hello,
We have a simple Q & A survey on a kiosk that is a stand alone. Can you set it so if the power goes off that when the power and internet come back on, it comes back to the start internet page?

Thanks,
Dave

powering back on is an option

Post by mjstrand »

Hi Dave. I am not sure whether your kiosk system is a special computer and what processor speed it is. For about the past 5 years (and maybe longer), the main boot-up settings (sometimes called the Rom Bios Settings) has an option to restart the computer after power failure. It is possible to force it on always, keep it off always or keep it at the last power on state (if it was on when the power went out, it turns it on, if it was off, it keeps it off). Usually you get into the Rom Bios settings by pressing F2 or the Delete key while it is booting up (I press it repeatedly until a message says that the computer is entering the setup area.)

I am assuming that your system already comes up to the internet start page when you turn your survey computer on? If so, then there are no additional changes needed. If you have to manually start your internet page, then you can put the web browser in your startup group (Windows talk). There is also a way to do that on Unix/Linux too. The last step is to set your web browser's home page to your survey internet page.

All of these things in combination should take care of your issue. If your Rom Bios settings does not have the power fail options, then you may be able to upgrade the motherboard (lots of questions before you do that though)

StrandVision follow up re: Power & Start Up

Post by Amy-StrandVision »

Hello and thank you for your questions about the loss of power. Actually, when and if, the internet service is disrupted, your signage will continue to play as it is cached automatically to the player PC. If the power is lost completely, it depends on how you have set up the player PC. If utilizing the set up within the player PC (e.g., ROM bios), you can select start at the beginning, continue or constantly play the loop. The default would be to start at the beginning of the loop of pages you have created.
